Boulder, CO - Chautauqua

We visited Chautauqua back in January and had attempted to reach Royal Arch then.  But an ice-covered trail and forgetting to bring our Yak Trax, put a quick end to that hike.

It was a pretty vertical climb even in perfect weather.  But the views and the arch were well worth the climb.

Along the way, we passed a “cairn farm”.  I love seeing these groups of stacked rocks – they’re almost like works of art.  As long as someone doesn’t start creating “fake” cairns on a trail that really does use them as trail markers, that is!

Here’s Andy at Royal Arch

The famous Boulder Flat Irons…

This park has so many meandering paths that I’m sure we’ll be back several more times to try and visit other areas, too.
