Easter Sunday

We joined some of our new friends from the Arvada Tri-Club for a morning run.  Several of them are in training for upcoming marathons so they were going to run 10-12 miles.  I’m so rusty, but I thought “Why not?”  I can run whatever distance I want on this out-and-back trail run.  And the fact that they were running on a trail and in Waterton Canyon was my inspiration.  I love running in nature.  And I found out there are Big Horn Sheep in this canyon!

So we agreed to meet them on what we thought was our first visit to Waterton Canyon – which is just southwest of Chatfield State Park (southwest of Denver).  At first I thought I was having a Deja Vu moment, but when I mentioned it to Andy, he agreed – we HAD been there before!! No wonder when I heard the name of the canyon the first thought that went thru my mind was “Big Horns” but I didn’t know why.  We rode our mountain bikes up this canyon in 2005.

It was a great run.  I ended up doing a run/walk just to get deeper into the canyon and completed about eight miles.  Andy did at least nine.  And yes, we saw my Big Horns…right on the trail/jeep road.  Good thing I had my cell phone on me to snap these shots.

Later Sunday night we went to Mass at Immaculate Conception, which is a beautiful cathedral in downtown Denver.  We found this cathedral years ago, on a touristy stroll by the Capitol.  It is truly beautiful – inside and out (see the older post for more pictures).

It was a nice Mass given by an Archbishop, with an angelic choir, and such a beautiful setting.  Usually I’m content to spend my holidays in nature – call me silly, but that’s where I feel closest to God – but I was glad I went to this mass.
