A Night Out and More

Carol was in town so we had two babysitters.  We were encouraged to take a night away.  Since we had to be in Estes Park on Sunday, Sept 15th for an art festival, we planned on a cabin in the canyon west of Lyons for a quiet night away with some hiking and then on to Estes to meet our vendors for a pottery-pickup (we sell pottery in our store and Estes is half the distance to meet then it would be to drive to southern CO where they live).

But the rains came.  And the flooding.  Some of the worst that Colorado had seen in many years.  It washed away several of the canyon roads and bridges, and Estes Park and Lyons, among several other towns, became isolated islands to themselves.  No way in or out except by rescue helicopter.  A true tragedy on many levels.

Our getaway was scratched a day after we made our plans.  The cabins we were going to stay at were inaccessible and were evacuating.  We were still encouraged to getaway, but considering the conditions of our favorite haunts, we decided to go to the city where it was safer.

We spent the evening strolling the streets of Denver’s 16th Street Mall.

And the beautifully lit Larimer Street.

It was a rainy evening and a rainy morning, becoming a great excuse to not really do anything much.  Sunday morning became a wonderful lazy morning reading the paper in bed, napping, and relaxing til noon.  Perfect.

Here are some other shots from that week:

Elizabeth in her new Rasta Hat (a gift from her favorite teacher Tiffany).

A Moon rises over the playground park in 5 Parks neighborhood where we go for sunsets.

And, Elizabeth tries on her new Halloween costume.  She wanted to be Spiderman, but when I found this (oversized) Super Girl costume, I thought it was perfect!  So did she!
