This month we tried out the new backpack carrier. Our first big hike out with Elizabeth ended as a flop. Or, should I say, “never happened”?
This was the most fun she had on the hike…
You may be saying, “What was the problem – she looks happy enough”, but every attempt to actually walk down the trail lead to loud screaming. To the point where Andy tried to sell her off to other hikers…but we got no takers.
Andy was also ready to return the backpack carrier that day. But who can blame him with her mouth being inches away from his ears?
Eliz continued to enjoy trying new foods…ok, except for peas. She made the funniest ‘grossed-out’ expressions, but every time I brought out the camera to capture the moment, she’d smile. Considering they smelled like canned peas, I didn’t blame her one bit. I promised never to subject her to those jarred peas again.
She also continues to prove to me how limber she is…
I am still waiting for the day that I see her put both feet in her mouth at the same time.
Then the day came when we tried another hike…and it was successful! Yea! Granted, we were still a little worried in the beginning (which started out with some whining) but then both babes fell asleep and we had an awesome time hiking in South Mesa.
Here’s our friend Bryce all ready to tackle the trail…
And our Little Girl as well…who even had several of her little friends traveling with her for comfort (this is her giraffe Sophie).
Our friends David and Beth, with Bryce and Ollie.
This picture cracks me up because all you see are legs in both carriers. The rest of the kids are there, they are just slumped over fast asleep. They missed all the beauty!
Elizabeth became more interested in imitating us this month. Hopefully she really doesn’t start this early! But if she did, at least she knows a good beer (Murphy’s Irish Stout)!
She did indeed start drinking out of cups this month, though (or pint glasses at first) and then she got her own little tumblers and a sippy cup, too.
Some things haven’t changed:
She continues to love her swings…
And, Andy continues to build her forts. You gotta love the static electricity hairdo!
Mom Thomas and Carol came out for a visit. It is so nice to have her be with family. We just wished they could have stayed a little longer. I think Elizabeth may have remembered them from Christmas. Either that, or she just enjoyed being with such loving, laughing, doting people.
During their stay, we left Elizabeth with the babysitter and took Mom out for High Tea at the Brown Palace downtown. I don’t remember a time when I felt so stress-free. It was so nice; such a treat. Funny, it was a belated birthday present for Mom, but we got so much from it as well. Good food and tea, great company, and a beautiful ambiance. And, no offense to Elizabeth, but I actually ate without wolfing my food!
Two big new things occurred this month. Elizabeth started sitting up unsupported. Wow, such a big girl already!
AND, I have started running again (finally!). Ok, I’m walk/running with another mom that I’ve met thru the mom support group we have been attending since Elizabeth’s birth. So, Carrie and her son Liam and I with Eliz have a standing weekly date to run/walk. Carrie keeps me honest with the timer and will help me get back into shape. It’s so nice getting some of the old routines back and it is even better to share it with someone else. We also figure that pushing the little ones will make us even stronger. My jogging stroller weighs 26lbs plus Elizabeth’s 18lbs+ adds quite a challenge. But even harder I think is running without being able to swing my arms. This will take some getting used to.
There are lots more pictures on the April WebAlbums, so check them out if you’d like.
