The weekend started when Alex and Fabian arrived from Florida. They were coming into town for the Bolder Boulder 10K race. Carol and Steph were driving in from Philly and we were expecting them to arrive on Sunday. Since they’d be here (to watch Elizabeth), Andy signed me up for the race at the last minute. And a couple of weeks ago, another friend from Florida called to say that she had just moved to Boulder…so of course we talked her into running the race. How odd was that for the five us to be together again, running a race, here in Colorado? It felt like home.
Alex, Fabian and Andy took a hike on Saturday up the Hessie Trail and saw some magnificent water flow on the waterfall that was a trickle when I did it last fall.
Then we all met, including Dorota, and Jim and Chris in Boulder so Dorota and I could get our race packets. Elizabeth enjoys the play areas on Pearl Street.
On Sunday, we hung out for awhile and let the “kids” play baseball in the backyard.
...until Steph and Carol arrived. Steph is moving in with us for awhile while she explores the area and looks for a job here. We wanted her to feel welcome to her new home so we decorated her room for her…
Monday morning was the race. Carol, Steph, and Eliz stayed behind while the four of us drove up to Boulder for the run. It was a lot of fun. Hard for me, though, since this was only the second time I did this distance in years. I would’ve come in within my goal time…if it wasn’t for having to take a potty break! stupid!
Alex beat Andy in this race, so that created quite a commotion between them…and Andy beat Dorota which created another commotion. Needless to say, there’s a little rivalry here in this group! We had fun runs in Florida, let’s just say.
The boys didn’t leave until Tuesday night, so Andy wanted to give them a huge farewell tour. So up to the top of Mt Evans they went! Jim and Chris had tried to go on Friday, but it wasn’t fully plowed yet. By Tuesday it was.
I think they were a little impressed with our local scenery!
Looking forward to next year’s Bolder Boulder! Maybe I’ll be better trained by then and I’ll be able to put some pressure on these guys!
Carol stayed with us until the end of the week. Here are Steph and Carol watching a sunset the night before she left. We know this change will be hard for these two, but we still think Steph is making a great decision in moving to Colorado.
