We are trying to become more serious about Elizabeth’s potty-training. She knows when she needs to pee, she can hold it, she can pull down her pants, she knows how to sit on the potty, wipe herself, dump her potty chair and flush the toilet. But since we haven’t been consistent about helping her practice, she doesn’t always want to do it. So yesterday we started with a full-day of training pants…and I had to do another tub of laundry at the end of the day…in addition to several “clean ups on Aisle 10” as we were joking.
Elizabeth was upset that her favorite Elephant Chair got soaked several times and had to be set aside for cleaning and drying. So, she didn’t understand why we got upset when she sat on the carpet and peed instead. She kept saying, “but Elephant didn’t get wet!” Oi vey, this is going to take some patience, isn’t it?
I’ve realized that she is better about going to the potty when she is naked, or panties only. Once those pants are on her she isn’t as aware. Plus, she had more distractions throughout the day with play and movie-time, etc. We’ll learn.
Well, today I was excited to send her off to school in her training pants. Again, my goal is to offer her consistency in her training. So, wasn’t I disappointed to learn this morning that both of her classroom teachers left on Friday. The substitute wasn’t real thrilled when I handed her a bag of panties and extra clothes, that’s for sure. But neither was I. Not a good day when they are understaffed.
