Elizabeth has always wanted to read one book while I read another one. She would usually silently flip thru pages and listen to me read aloud and show her the pictures from another book.
If I caught her reading a book alone, I would watch her flip a page and speak out loud. Usually just mumbling or sounds and often in a rhythmic sing-song pattern, sometimes she would say words like “dog” or “horse” depending on the pictures.
This week she began to “read” to me. She would sit in her bed or in the glider and turn a page and then flip the book so I could see the page. Then she would start the sing-song sounds, but once I would ask her questions about the page I was looking at she started to give me words describing the pictures on the page.
She’s reading to me now. It is so much fun watching my little girl grow up.
