Asheville, NC - Chimney Rock State Park

On Saturday our intention was to take the time to enjoy some of the area, and to give our legs a little break - so that meant 'no mountain biking or running'.  After running on hills (not to mention all of the walking we did in this hilly campground), my hips and glutes were feeling it.

We decided to visit Chimney Rock State Park

If only I realized that the majority of the open trails were going to be up and down steps I might've reconsidered this as "my day of rest" activity!

How many steps, you ask?  I didn't count.  But if you cheated and took the elevator, that travels 26 stories vertically through rock to access the top Chimney Rock.  Unfortunately, two of the trails I was looking forward to hiking - The Skyline Trail and The Cliff Trail - were closed.  Oh well, that happens sometimes.  But it was a nice afternoon, although a little touristy. If you go on a beautiful weekend day, be patient as you'll have to wait for people on the narrow staircases.

The 404-foot Hickory Nut Falls were very pretty and a little quieter.

I love Chimney rock. That's my idea of extreme exercise!! It was too rainy to even stop last time we were by there. Thanks for the pictures.
