This past Sunday we decided on a quick hike into Mt Galbraith Park. The mountains were expecting some more heavy snows and we didn’t want to get caught up in that. So we chose Mt Galbraith because it is in the foothills but is only 2 miles west of Hwy 93. So close!
It was still chilly and snow-covered…yes, that masked man is my wonderful hubby…
We had to keep a close eye on the storm clouds that seemed to surround us. For awhile, we were in a spotlight of sunshine with these black/white snow clouds north, west and south of us.
At several points during our hike we could see downtown Denver. Hard to tell in this photo, but you could see the high rises thru that notch to the left…
Here’s a better view of Golden, South Table Mountain, and then behind is downtown Denver. (Don’t forget to click on the photo to enlarge.)
We haven’t been seeing too many big animals on our hikes. So we were excited to look down the hill and see about seven mule deer below us.
It was another nice hike, but the majority of the trails were within earshot of traffic. If you’re looking for quiet and serenity, this isn’t the best choice. If you’re looking for something close and with nice views, this hike works well. Be prepared that it is one hilly hike – about a 1,700’ elevation gain….and the lollipop-shaped trail was only 3 miles total.
