On Sunday, November 22nd (yes, I’m flashing back! b/c today is actually Dec 5th, sorry!) we took a great hike in a Boulder County Open Space. This park was on the western border of Eldorado Canyon State Park and the trails will take you into both parks.
It was a beautiful hike with rock outcroppings, trails that wandered alongside Boulder Creek, and high up on ridges with great views of the canyon. We could even see the front range and a windmill farm miles away.
We hiked the 8 mile Loop Trail (see Walker Ranch trail map), starting and ending at Crescent Meadows Parking Lot. We weren’t prepared for the ice and snow that covered the trail, and we ran into a nice hiker and her crazy lab pup, and so we had a very slow start to our hike. Unfortunately that meant we had to half-run the second half in order to make it back to the car before sunset. Boy did we pay for that for several days after with sore muscles! Note to self: next time carry our headlamps on every winter hike! And our hiking poles!
On the eastern side of the loop (just south of the Eldorado Canyon Trail connector was a stunning narrow rock canyon with a waterfall.
Unfortunately we had a hard time enjoying it because we had to focus so much on the rock staircase to get from the valley floor to the next ridge.
